Job Description

The ideal candidate is interested in the specialty of ophthalmology, enjoys working with a passionate team, and desires to provide exceptional client and patient care. The technician will assist with providing both medical and surgical ophthalmology services alongside the Ophthalmology Doctors at the Vet Vision Center.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with ophthalmic examinations using proper restraint techniques

  • Perform basic ophthalmic diagnostic tests (Schirmer tear test, fluorescein stain, and tonometry)

  • Assist with advanced ophthalmic diagnostics such as ocular ultrasound and electroretinography

  • Perform routine physical examinations and phlebotomy

  • Conduct in-house diagnostics (e.g. CBC and chemistry panels, snap tests, slide staining)

  • Set up for and assist during ophthalmic procedures and surgeries

  • Prepare an ideal sedation or anesthetic plan for patients undergoing procedures or surgery

  • Induce, monitor, and recover patients undergoing surgery in a safe and efficient manner

  • Assist clients as needed with questions or concerns, medication refills, appointment scheduling

  • Provide care to hospitalized patients with proficiency at administering eye medications

  • Assist with maintaining a healthy, clean, and organized hospital environment

Skills

  • Able to comfortably work with cats, dogs, and small mammal / exotics

  • Proficient and professional during client interactions such as obtaining a history, discussion of patient care, and phone / email communication

  • Basic knowledge of ophthalmic anatomy, terminology, and common eye conditions with a desire to become proficient in this area

  • Basic knowledge of ophthalmic equipment and surgical instruments including proper care

  • Knowledge of commonly used ophthalmic medications

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment in multiple roles and maintain a positive team focus

Education & Experience

  • High school or equivalent (preferred)

  • Veterinary technician experience: 1 year (required)

  • Veterinary technician certification (preferred)

Job Type & Schedule

  • Full-time positions available

  • Hours of Hospital Operation: Monday-Friday 7:30 am – 5:30 pm

Pay

  • $17 - $27 per hour commensurate with experience
